Why we built Table Hype.

A short story about indie restaurants, COVID, and getting tired of watching good people lose to bad systems.

The Story

I’m Jenna. I’ve been building websites and doing SEO for independent restaurants for over a decade.
During COVID, I watched my clients fight for their lives. Closures, ever-changing rules, customers who didn’t come back. One of them went out of business entirely. Others scraped through. I sat there building websites at my kitchen table thinking — this is brutal, and they don’t have anyone helping them think about marketing right now.
I almost pivoted. Making websites for lawyers is honestly easier and more profitable than working with restaurants. But I couldn’t shake it. The restaurant industry is unique and brutal in a way other industries aren’t.
Restaurants operate on tiny margins. And then almost every tool they touch takes a cut on top of that. Review platforms charge for “visibility.” POS systems take a percentage. Third-party delivery apps charge up to 30%. These billion-dollar bullies built their businesses by taking an unfair share of work they didn’t do.
I got tired of watching it.
So we built TableHype: an affordable, transparent system that turns customer reviews into marketing — without taking a commission, without hiding your best reviews, without nickel-and-diming you as you grow.
If your restaurant shows up correctly online, you’re in control of your reputation. Your listings are accurate. Your Google profile is dialed in. Your best reviews are on your own website and your own social feeds — where the big platforms can’t hide them.
That’s the whole idea. Take your reputation back from the platforms that have been profiting off it for years.

What we believe

Independent restaurants are what make a city worth living in. Chains can fill a stomach. Indies fill a neighborhood.
Yelp doesn’t matter as much as they want you to think. 94% of consumers don’t even use it. Stop paying tribute. Focus on Google, where the customers actually are.
Tools built for “any business” will never serve restaurants well. That’s why we only build for one kind of business — and never sell to chains.
Generosity beats pressure. We’d rather give you the playbook for free than corner you into a sale.
Real humans, real names. There’s a person behind every email we send. Always.

Our mission is to give Restaurant Owners the tools they need to grow their revenue and go commission-free. We believe that more 5 star reviews leads to restaurant growth and a boost in revenue. Our passion for helping restaurant owners began during Covid after seeing places we loved go out of business. Today we have tools and experience that we wish we had then.
